CMT [Inside] Fame - Sheryl Crow
Sheryl Crow has been piling up the hits and awards for nearly a decade,
appealing to a broad and diverse fan base. Here, she discusses how she
went from singing jingles to being a multi-platinum Grammy winner and the
personal sacrifices she's made along the way. Additional interviews
include family, friends and colleagues including Don Henley, Stevie Nicks
and Lenny Kravitz. Crow has sold more than 20 million albums and has
become one of the most popular performers gracing the stage in the past
10 years. But before making it big in music, the classically trained
musician and former schoolteacher sang commercial jingles and worked as a
backup singer for Michael Jackson and Don Henley. With musical influences
like the Carter Family, the Rolling Stones, Stevie Nicks and Emmylou
Harris, Crow's music has transcended musical genres hitting the top of
both the rock and country charts. Quotes from CMT Inside Fame: Crow, on
her musical influences: "Some of my favorite people that I've ever had
the pleasure and honor of knowing have been country artists. Like Emmylou
Harris, who has really enriched my life. And Willie [Nelson] has embraced
me and made me feel welcome in the genre." Crow, on how country music has
influenced her music: "I think a lot of the songs that have brought me
the success that I've had have really just been straight-up country songs.
Like, 'If It Makes You Happy' and 'Strong Enough to Be My Man.'" Henley,
on Crow: "She was brought up right in the middle of country so she has
that heartland kind of strength." Kravitz, on Crow: "You can be a folk
singer and have a lot of soul. You could be a jazz singer, a country
singer, whatever. You could play polkas, but if you jam, and you're in it,
it has soul. So, she definitely has soul."
